March 22, 2016 - PRINCETON, NJ — NJIT junior Jabarry Goodridge exploded for a career-best 30 kills to lead visiting NJIT, 3-2, at Princeton Tuesday evening in Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) men's volleyball action at Dillon Gym.
NJIT, which edged Princeton in five sets, 25-22, 23-25, 25-13, 23-25 and 15-13, has won the last four in a row, tying the longest win streak for NJIT since 2015, when the Highlanders defeated Charleston (WV), Coker, Limestone and Belmont Abbey in the month of January.
The fifth and deciding, set, which saw eight ties and three lead changes, saw its final tie at 13-13 after a service error by the Tigers. The Highlanders gained the upper hand, 14-13, on block assists from Luke Robbe and Ricardo Whitaker, resulting in a Princeton timeout. NJIT's leader, Goodridge, put down his 30th kill of the night and final point of the match, securing the 15-13 victory.
NJIT (5-3 EIVA, 6-13 overall) combined for a season-best .409 hitting percentage paced by Goodridge, the outside hitter, who finished with 30 kills on 47 attempts and five errors, for a .532 hitting percentage. For the season, the junior from Barbados has notched double-digit kills in 15-out-of-16 matches (missed three due to injury) this season.
Redshirt senior TJ Jurko recorded his third double-double on the season with 16 kills and 10 digs, while surpassing the 1,000 carrer kill platea. Redshirt junior middle Luke Robbe combined for 12 kills on 19 swings with just one error for a match-best .579 hitting percentage.
Freshman setter Ricardo Whitaker recorded 60 of NJIT's 65 sets while classmate libero Chris Wise led the match with 11 digs followed by Jurko with 10.
The Highlanders held a 7-to-4 service ace advantage led by Goodridge and Jurko with two apiece while three different Highlanders – Robbe, Raymond Kowalski and Brad Thele each had one ace.
In front of the net, Goodridge, Robbe, Whitaker each posted three total blocks followed by Jurko (2) and Kowalski (1).
