Deacons’ men defeat Progressive

Defending champions Deacons surged from a set down to stop Progressive 23-25, 30-28, 25-17, 25-22 when the action continued on Sunday night at the Wildey Gymnasium.

Deacons’ Ahkeem Mayers and Akeem Oxley shook off some solid blocks from Progressive to retain the men’s division one lead.

Starz won their first game of the season dazzling CO Williams Foundation United 25-23, 21-25, 25-21, 29-27.
The high jumping Jonathan Alleyne, Kyle “Froggy” Croney and Derion Hurley proved too potent for Foundation who assisted their defeat by committing multiple serving and attacking errors.

Clapham Toners to the top

When the action continued on Wednesday night at the Wildey Gymnasium, Burger King Clapham Toners women took control of the Goddard Enterprises Limited division one volleyball race.

Toners blazed to the top of the standings by defeating Pan American Insurance Warrens 25-9, 25-13, 25-14. Deacons women are making a late bid for the crown as they advanced by stopping Phoenix Security Service Carlton 25-18, 25-9, 21-25, 25-18.

Men’s champions Deacons took control of the Goddard Enterprises Limited division one volleyball race when the action continued at the Wildey Gymnasium.

Deacons’ men welcomed back Ahkeem Mayers from injury and Akeem Oxley who returned from his scholarship for his father’s funeral in stopping CO Williams Foundation United 25-18, 25-21, 25-21.

Former junior captain Brandon Callender was the sole consistent performer for Foundation who engage in the celebration of every won point.

Former kings Progressive held off an aggressive Starz to score a rare straight sets win 27-25, 25-23, 25-19.

Clapham Toners shocking meltdown

Burger King Clapham Toners suffered a shocking meltdown when the league action continued at the Wildey Gymnasium.

Toners who previously led the standings were up two sets and leading 23-19 in the third before folding 25-22, 25-23, 23-25, 22-25, 5-15 to create greater league drama. Ashley Jordan, Ashley Marshall and Janelle Chase-Mayers continued their attacking form and libero Jhada Goddard played a great passing game to give Toners the upper hand.

Left-handers Abege Carrington, Serena Edwards, veteran Julia Lewis along with pint sized Marissa Dowell kept Deacons in the hunt with Shanna Jones adding to the cause as libero before she had to leave the game with an injury in the fourth set.

Chargers crushed Development Volleyball in Motion 25-15, 25-7, 25-18 to keep within striking distance of the leaders.

UWI Blackbirds regain lead

The battle for the Goddard Enterprises Limited women’s division one volleyball crown took another twist with UWI Blackbirds reclaiming the top perch when the league action continued at the Wildey Gymnasium.

The Blackbirds’ 20-25, 25-16, 25-13, 25-20 dismissal of Theta Math Academy Club United regained that lead for the defending champions. UWI welcomed back Shakera “Smiley” Hall from injury but with captain Dania Hamilton and Nikita Wickham missing, Club grabbed the first set and got no further.

Phoenix Services Carlton came from a set down to defeat Pan American Insurance Warrens 13-25, 25-15, 27-25, 25-6.

Carlton defeats UWI Blackbirds

Phoenix Services Carlton defeated the defending champions UWI Blackbirds for the second time when the Goddard Enterprises Limited division one volleyball league continued at the Gymnasium. Carlton toppled the Blackbirds to a stunning defeat 25-20, 14-25, 19-25, 27-25, 15-12.

Chargers probably gave up all hopes of taking the title as an encore performance saw them being beaten by Deacons 22-25, 25-20, 17-25, 25-22, 12-15.

Development Volleyball in Motion won their fifth game by blowing away Pan American Insurance Warrens 25-18, 25-20, 25-15.

Cawmere was defeated by Progressive 29-27, 14-25, 25-23, 25-16 but still lead the table.
