UWI Blackbirds regain lead

The battle for the Goddard Enterprises Limited women’s division one volleyball crown took another twist with UWI Blackbirds reclaiming the top perch when the league action continued at the Wildey Gymnasium.

The Blackbirds’ 20-25, 25-16, 25-13, 25-20 dismissal of Theta Math Academy Club United regained that lead for the defending champions. UWI welcomed back Shakera “Smiley” Hall from injury but with captain Dania Hamilton and Nikita Wickham missing, Club grabbed the first set and got no further.

Phoenix Services Carlton came from a set down to defeat Pan American Insurance Warrens 13-25, 25-15, 27-25, 25-6.

Carlton defeats UWI Blackbirds

Phoenix Services Carlton defeated the defending champions UWI Blackbirds for the second time when the Goddard Enterprises Limited division one volleyball league continued at the Gymnasium. Carlton toppled the Blackbirds to a stunning defeat 25-20, 14-25, 19-25, 27-25, 15-12.

Chargers probably gave up all hopes of taking the title as an encore performance saw them being beaten by Deacons 22-25, 25-20, 17-25, 25-22, 12-15.

Development Volleyball in Motion won their fifth game by blowing away Pan American Insurance Warrens 25-18, 25-20, 25-15.

Cawmere was defeated by Progressive 29-27, 14-25, 25-23, 25-16 but still lead the table.

Clapham Toners maintain lead

Burger King Clapham Toners continued on a path of winning the Goddard Enterprises Limited division one volleyball titles when round two of the league continued at the Wildey Gymnasium.

Toners battled from a set down and set point in the second set to stop Development Volleyball in Motion 22-25, 26-24, 25-8, 25-13. After taking the early challenges DVM could not match the power of Ashley Jordan and Ashley Marshall along with the experience of Janelle Chase-Mayers.

Theta Math Club Academy stunned Pan American Insurance Warrens in straight sets 25-20, 25-14, 25-16. The performances of Kiana Alleyne and Sheriann Norris gave Club their first win.

Cawmere keeps chances alive

Cawmere men maintained outside hopes of winning the Goddard Enterprises Limited division one volleyball titles when round two of the league continued at the Wildey Gymnasium.

Shawn Simpson used his power, elevation and reach for Cawmere to deny Starz their first victory in 2022 in a keen five setter 23-25, 25-15, 20-25, 25-21, 15-12.

Patrick Oxley: Gone too soon

The Officers and Members of the Barbados Volleyball Association extend deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Patrick Oxley of Deacons.

The affable “Pat The Dog” Oxley of Deacons passed away today Tuesday, September 20, 2022.

​Patrick, 49, who was the brother of former Barbados captain Elwyn Oxley and father of national player and volleyball scholarship winner Akeel Oxley passed away following a short period of illness.

Patrick was a key setter on Deacons division two team which dominated volleyball for over a decade in the nineties. Following his playing days Patrick took up coaching at the Springer Memorial School and Harrison College.


​Patrick not only became a Barbados Junior Team coach but he formed Development Volleyball in Motion six years ago to accommodate the large number of beginner players who journeyed to Deacons to be coached in the sport. DVM reached the women’s division one in 2019.

​May he Rest In Peace and Rise in Glory.

Toners in title chase

Burger King Clapham Toners kept in the hunt by defeating Chargers 25-12, 25-11, 25-12 when the Goddard Enterprises Limited division one volleyball first continued at the Wildey Gymnasium. Chargers had no answer to the aggressive attack of Ashley Marshall and Ashley Jordan.

Pan American Insurance Warrens recalled veterans Sophia Walcott and Talya Layne to edge Theta Math Academy Club United 25-13, 23-25, 14-25, 26-24, 15-11.
