Clapham Toners shocking meltdown

Burger King Clapham Toners suffered a shocking meltdown when the league action continued at the Wildey Gymnasium.

Toners who previously led the standings were up two sets and leading 23-19 in the third before folding 25-22, 25-23, 23-25, 22-25, 5-15 to create greater league drama. Ashley Jordan, Ashley Marshall and Janelle Chase-Mayers continued their attacking form and libero Jhada Goddard played a great passing game to give Toners the upper hand.

Left-handers Abege Carrington, Serena Edwards, veteran Julia Lewis along with pint sized Marissa Dowell kept Deacons in the hunt with Shanna Jones adding to the cause as libero before she had to leave the game with an injury in the fourth set.

Chargers crushed Development Volleyball in Motion 25-15, 25-7, 25-18 to keep within striking distance of the leaders.

Chargers defeat UWI Blackbirds

Chargers inflicted the first defeat on defending women’s champions UWI Blackbirds to remain in the division one race when the Goddard Enterprises Limited volleyball action continued at the Wildey Gymnasium.

Shakera “Smiley” Hall and Nikita Wickham looked set to score the come from behind win for UWI. However, Padmore, Shaina Bradshaw and Thonya Joseph combined to squeeze out the tense victory.

Warrens shock Chargers

Warrens put another dent in the Chargers’ bid to take the league title when the Goddard Enterprises Limited division one league continued at the Wildey Gymnasium.

Former professional Anicia Wood and young Arianna Layne shocked the higher ranked Chargers 14-25, 25-15, 10-25, 26-24, 15-9. The performance of Shaina Bradshaw, Dei Padmore and Latifah Wood suggested an easy win for Chargers.

However, with their setter, Carah Watson out with injury Warrens relied on Stacey Atherley and Gabrielle Foster as substitute playmakers and a total team game to topple Chargers to their successive upset. Layne was outstanding in serving and attacking which made a mockery of her small stature.
