Contrasting Fortunes for Wow Foundation and Club United

Sunday February 9, 2025 – Newly promoted Wow Foundation United women and Club United experienced opposite results when the Barbados Volleyball Association’s division one league was continued at the Wildey Gymnasium.

While Club was dismissed by men’s defending champions KFC Deacons 14-25, 15-25, 21-25, Foundation knocked down Hill Road 25-14, 25-16, 25-13. Hill Road could not contend with the fury and fire of CAZOVA all star Destiny Layne and her Harrison College teammate Talia Sandiford.

In the other women’s match, Chargers demonstrated their prowess by stopping Phoenix Security Services Carlton in straight sets, with scores of 25-18, 25-18, and 25-15.

Deacon’s men unbeaten

Tuesday, October 24 – Defending men’s champion Deacons continued their unbeaten run when the Goddard Enterprises Limited division one volleyball action continued at Oldbury, St. Philip.

Deacons dismissed Cawmere 25-20, 25-19, 25-19 to move to the top of the table.

Progressive defeated CO Williams Foundation United 25-21, 25-23, 19-25, 25-19. The slimly built Akeil Stoute and Yvan Grant made easy work of Foundation’s net and ground defence.

Deacons men unbeaten

Defending men’s champions Deacons continued their unbeaten run when the senior volleyball knockout preliminaries restarted at the Wildey Gymnasium on Sunday, September 10.

Deacons handed All Starz their second loss in succession 25-23, 25-21, 25-19. CO Williams Foundation United could not follow up on their last game win over Starz as they tumbled to Chargers 25-22, 20-25, 16-25, 17-25.

Both Cawmere and Progressive met seeking their first win in two games with Cawmere earning the victory 26-24, 27-25, 25-16.

Deacons men start with a win

Champions Deacons men made a predictably easy and successful start to their defence of the senior volleyball knockout crown while All Starz created history at the Wildey Gymnasium on Wednesday, August 23.

Deacons defeated Foundation United 25-21, 25-23, 25-22 although their Barbados starter Ahkeem Mayers was late and Ashe Oxley never suited up. Foundation played their customary game of celebrating points but struggling to win sets or matches.

Starz won their first game against a division one team in straight sets and defeated Cawmere for the first time in their six-year first division career taking the match 25-13, 25-17, 25-15. Jason Hendy, Kyle Croney, and Derion Hurley were outstanding for Starz.

UWI Blackbirds defeat Comanchees

The UWI Blackbirds men easily dismissed the BDF Comanchees 25-9, 25-16 when the Goddard Enterprises Limited junior volleyball knockouts continued on Tuesday night at Cave Hill.

The superior attack of Carlos Cyrus and Adam Niles proved too powerful for the soldiers. In an earlier game Blazers stopped Advent Ballers 25-22, 25-21.

Two female games were played at Hill Road with Warrens defeating Chargers 29-27, 25-23 and Hill Road stopped Foundation United 25-8, 23-25, 15-6.

Deacons and Cawmere in Knockout Finals

League champions Deacons predictably advanced to the finals of the Goddard Enterprises Limited volleyball knockouts when the semifinals were staged at the Wildey Gymnasium.

Deacons advanced with a straight sets 25-19, 25-16, 25-23 dismissal of CO Williams Foundation United, and Cawmere out-powered Progressive 24-26, 25-21, 25-22, 25-21. Shawn Simpson figuratively and literally pounded Progressive to set up a date with Deacons.
