The volleyball fraternity turned out in great numbers at the Breath Of Life Seventh Days Church on Whitehall main road yesterday to pay homage to former Barbados player Angelina “Angie” Smith who passed away on February 10 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Small in stature but lauded for being a giant in spirit and determination Angie was praised for her tremendous spiking and defence skills as well as her almost indomitable spirit where she ignored her great pains to bring cheer to those around her.
A packed and overflowing church of many of her Toners and Barbados teammates heard pastor Dale Haynes saying that they should keep faith in that although they wanted God to provide a cure he offered something better as he was a God of resurrection.
President of the Barbados Volleyball Association Kenmore Bynoe said, “In addition to her awesome jump and attacking skills Angie had no equal in ground play where her almost superhuman passing and defence skills were even more captivating then her spiking.
