Chargers and DVM women in Finals

Chargers women face Development Volleyball in Motion (DVM) when the Goddard Enterprise Limited junior knockout finals are staged on Sunday August 21, 2022 at the Wildey Gymnasium.

The finalists were decided on Tuesday night with DVM stunning the former queens Deacons in four sets 26-24, 26-24, 17-25, 25-17. Deacons held commanding leads in the contest before DVM shockingly surged to win and take a two sets advantage.

South paws Serena Edwards and Taquilla Lawrence compensated for a subpar performance by overseas based Shanae Boyce to put Deacons in charge with what should have been winning leads. But, meltdowns by Edwards and Lawrence and a steady game by former Deacons player Kandia Shorey gave DVM great hope.

That hope was magnified by the attack of Desanni Waithe and Tamia Woodall with setter Amber Alleyne helping her team to reach their first knockout finals. With Deacons out of the contest both Chargers and Phoenix Security Services Carlton increased their bids to battle in the final on Sunday.

Carlton fought from a set down to lead two sets to one but in the end faded 27-29, 25-18, 25-22, 15-25, 5-15. The attack of Nerissa Dyer and Tiara Johnson seemed potent enough to carry Carlton to their first final.

However, the better setting by Chargers’ captain Dayna Babb and powerful counters from Latifah Wood, Dei Padmore, Shaina Bradshaw and Andrea Oughterson, who came off the bench, denied Carlton. The deciding fifth set was a disappointment with Babb serving Chargers to nine points before Carlton scored.
