Apex hand Deacons first loss

Thursday, May 22, 2025 – KFC Deacons stumbled in defence of the Barbados Volleyball Association’s men’s division two crown when they were upended in straight sets on Thursday night on their home court by newcomers to the division, Apex, 18-25, 20-25, 23-25.

Apex, led by Guyanese attacking duo Devendra Latchman and Shemroy Ross and inspirational setter Ramon Blades, avenged last year’s first loss to Deacons in division three at the same venue.

Apex outplayed Deacons in the opening two sets before Deacons stormed back to hold leads of 12-6 and 19-16 to threaten to take the match into a fourth set. However, Apex remarkably rallied to take the lead 20-19 and went to game and match point 24-22 before ending the battle 25-23.

Apex rebound over Advent

Saturday, May 17, 2025 – Newly promoted Apex used the Bagatelle home advantage on Saturday night to rebound from their last loss to division two WOW Foundation United by whipping Advent Ballers 25-15, 25-16, 25-20.

Guyanese duo Davindra Latchman, Shemroy Ross, and attorney Martie Garnes led the fight for Apex. Former Barbados player Rene Archer provided a counter for Advent, but he and his teammates were too inconsistent to win at least a set.

Earlier at Bagatelle on Saturday night, Simba Alleyne led Foundation United’s division three men to a 25-21, 25-17 win over Development Volleyball in Motion.

The UWI Blackbirds dismissed Chargers 25-15, 25-22 in a women’s division two battle.

WOW Foundation United unbeaten

Thursday, May 15, 2025 – WOW Foundation United continued their unbeaten run in the Barbados Volleyball Association’s Division Two league after being given a scare by newly promoted Apex on Thursday night at Oldbury, St. Philip.

FU had to battle from a set down to take the match 19-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-17, with former standout NCAA player Jabarry Goodridge dominating Apex’s defence. The newcomers looked impressive in the indoor facility, with Guyanese duo Davindra Latchman and Shemroy Ross, along with attorney Martie Garnes, providing great fight for Apex.

Ironically, while the pouring rain impacted the other outdoor fixtures, the large crowd at Olbury enjoyed entertaining attacks and counterattacks from both teams. Six foot four Rashawn Alleyne proved vital in executing demoralising one on one blocks on Apex.

Unfortunately, the second game involving the home team, Advent, was not as exciting. Hill Road rolled over Advent 25-21, 25-20, 25-17.

Before the rains, Cave Hill KFC Deacons outclassed UWI 25-21, 25-17. No other matches were completed on the night.

Club United and Blazers Shine

Tuesday, April 22, 2025 – Free Hill was the stage for a showdown as Club United harnessed their home-court advantage to secure a decisive win over Phoenix Security Services Carlton. With commanding performances in both sets, they clinched the match 25-12, 25-21.

Blazers embarked on a journey from St. Philip to face Apex out of St. Thomas. Unfazed by the challenge of playing away, they took the contest 25-8, 25-16.
