Foundation United and Warrens secure victories

Wednesday, February 19, 2025 – Newly promoted WOW Foundation United and Warrens Jaguars scored surprising victories when the Barbados Volleyball Association’s division one league continued at the Wildey Gymnasium.

With CAZOVA all star Destiny Layne leading the way Foundation stopped former double crown queens Burger King Clapham Toners 25-19, 26-24, 21-25, 29-27.

Warrens came from a set down to upend another former double crown champion Chargers 17-25, 25-23, 25-21, 26-24. Warrens play an uncomplicated game of serving on the ball and setting 98% of their attack to six-footers Anicia Wood and Rhe-Ann Niles-Mapp which confound and defeat their inexperience and hasty opponents.

Deacons who are making a serious bid to take the league crown wasted no time in handing Hill Road their third straight-sets defeat in a row 25-11, 25-15, 25-22.

The UWI Blackbirds secured a commanding victory over Phoenix Security Services Carlton. With scores of 25-21, 25-19, and 25-15, they demonstrated their prowess and teamwork on the court.

Carlton shock Toners

Monday February 17, 2025 – The theme of upsets was the common thread when the Barbados Volleyball Association’s division one league continued at the Wildey Gymnasium.

The biggest shocker was Phoenix Security Services Carlton winning their first game in four outings by dismissing former queens Burger King Clapham Toners in straight sets 25-13, 25-21, 25-17.

KFC Deacons followed up their last stunner over defending champions UWI Blackbirds by crushing Chargers 25-23, 25-22, 25-17. Chargers’ sister team Hill Road also suffered a straight sets beating which was at the hands of Warrens 22-25, 19-25, 11-25.

Queens UWI seemed in danger of folding to the upset pattern when newly promoted WOW Foundation grabbed the first two sets. But, UWI reminded Foundation that they had dismissed them in straight sets in the knockout finals by taking last night’s battle 19-25, 25-27, 25-12, 25-22, 15-11.

Contrasting Fortunes for Wow Foundation and Club United

Sunday February 9, 2025 – Newly promoted Wow Foundation United women and Club United experienced opposite results when the Barbados Volleyball Association’s division one league was continued at the Wildey Gymnasium.

While Club was dismissed by men’s defending champions KFC Deacons 14-25, 15-25, 21-25, Foundation knocked down Hill Road 25-14, 25-16, 25-13. Hill Road could not contend with the fury and fire of CAZOVA all star Destiny Layne and her Harrison College teammate Talia Sandiford.

In the other women’s match, Chargers demonstrated their prowess by stopping Phoenix Security Services Carlton in straight sets, with scores of 25-18, 25-18, and 25-15.

Hill Road and Deacons in the top four

Wednesday, November 2 – Hill Road held on to the second spot and Deacons the fourth when the Goddard Enterprises Limited division one action continued at the Wildey Gymnasium.

Hill Road defeated the inconsistent Phoenix Security Services Carlton 19-25, 27-25, 25-18, 25-21.

Carlton was on the verge of going two sets up when they held set point 24-20 in the second set. However, a slew of successive service errors and mistakes by Carlton gifted Hill Road their fifth win.

Former queens Deacons displaced Chargers for the fourth position by handing them a straight sets defeat 25-16, 25-19, 25-17. Without an injured setter Dayna Babb Chargers could not match the all round team play of their opponents.

Straight sets wins

Monday, October 23 – It was straight sets wins when the four bottom-placed teams took to the court at Oldbury, St. Philip last night in the Goddard Enterprises Limited division one volleyball league.

Hill Road proved too steep for Development Volleyball in Motion stalling their challenging efforts 27-25, 25-19, 28-26. Then Phoenix Security Services Carlton toyed with and defeated Club United 25-22, 25-19, 25-23.
