UWI Blackbirds Soar Closer to Division One Title

Wednesday, February 26, 2025 – The UWI Blackbirds’ determination to claim the Barbados Volleyball Association’s division one title remains unyielding as they secured a decisive victory against Burger King Clapham Toners when the league continued at the Wildey Gymnasium.

In a commanding performance, the Blackbirds dominated the court, securing straight sets with scores of 25-10, 25-18, and 25-20. The match showcased the team’s skill, strategy, and relentless pursuit of victory as they inch closer to the coveted top spot.

In another fixture, the contest between Chargers and Hill Road fell short of expectations, as Chargers effortlessly claimed victory with scores of 25-18, 25-12, and 25-12.

Foundation United and Warrens secure victories

Wednesday, February 19, 2025 – Newly promoted WOW Foundation United and Warrens Jaguars scored surprising victories when the Barbados Volleyball Association’s division one league continued at the Wildey Gymnasium.

With CAZOVA all star Destiny Layne leading the way Foundation stopped former double crown queens Burger King Clapham Toners 25-19, 26-24, 21-25, 29-27.

Warrens came from a set down to upend another former double crown champion Chargers 17-25, 25-23, 25-21, 26-24. Warrens play an uncomplicated game of serving on the ball and setting 98% of their attack to six-footers Anicia Wood and Rhe-Ann Niles-Mapp which confound and defeat their inexperience and hasty opponents.

Deacons who are making a serious bid to take the league crown wasted no time in handing Hill Road their third straight-sets defeat in a row 25-11, 25-15, 25-22.

The UWI Blackbirds secured a commanding victory over Phoenix Security Services Carlton. With scores of 25-21, 25-19, and 25-15, they demonstrated their prowess and teamwork on the court.

Carlton shock Toners

Monday February 17, 2025 – The theme of upsets was the common thread when the Barbados Volleyball Association’s division one league continued at the Wildey Gymnasium.

The biggest shocker was Phoenix Security Services Carlton winning their first game in four outings by dismissing former queens Burger King Clapham Toners in straight sets 25-13, 25-21, 25-17.

KFC Deacons followed up their last stunner over defending champions UWI Blackbirds by crushing Chargers 25-23, 25-22, 25-17. Chargers’ sister team Hill Road also suffered a straight sets beating which was at the hands of Warrens 22-25, 19-25, 11-25.

Queens UWI seemed in danger of folding to the upset pattern when newly promoted WOW Foundation grabbed the first two sets. But, UWI reminded Foundation that they had dismissed them in straight sets in the knockout finals by taking last night’s battle 19-25, 25-27, 25-12, 25-22, 15-11.

Warrens and KFC Deacons Triumph

Monday, February 10, 2025 – The Barbados Volleyball Association division one league witnessed a dramatic turn of events in the women’s matches as Warrens pulled off a stunning victory against UWI Blackbirds.

Leading the charge for Warrens were six-footers Anicia Wood and former Barbados netball captain Rhe-Ann Niles-Mapp. Their exceptional performance paved the way for a remarkable win over defending women’s champions UWI Blackbirds. Warrens clinched the match in straight sets, dominating with scores of 25-20, 25-10, and 25-20. The combination of Wood’s towering spikes and Niles-Mapp’s strategic plays left the Blackbirds struggling to keep up.

The battle of the restaurant franchises saw KFC Deacons frying Burger King Clapham Toners in an intense showdown. KFC Deacons secured their victory in straight sets as well, with scores of 25-15, 25-17, and 26-24.

UWI Blackbirds maintain flight

Wednesday, November 2 – UWI Blackbirds maintained their flight towards double crown status when the Goddard Enterprises Limited division one action continued at the Wildey Gymnasium.

The Blackbirds surprisingly dropped a set to the impressive Development Volleyball in Motion but took the game 25-14, 22-25, 25-12, 25-20. Barbados players Tenielle Chapman-Goodluck and Dessani Waithe who came over from DVM continued their great form for UWI.

Monday, October 30 – Development Volleyball in Motion continued their fantastic 2023 season when the Goddard Enterprises Limited division one volleyball action continued at Oldbury, St. Philip.

DVM defeated Warrens 25-19, 21-25, 25-19, 25-12 to not only move to second in the standings with 19 points but four victories in one round is unprecedented for the relatively new club since moving to division one five years ago.

Knockout queens UWI Blackbirds continued on their path towards double crown honours as they crushed Club United 25-16, 25-7, 26-24.
