Home court advantage proved little comfort for UWI Blackbirds in the first match, as KFC Deacons defeated their hosts in straight sets, 25-15, 25-10, 25-19.

The second match saw the Blackbirds take an early lead against Burger King Clapham Toners, winning the first set 26-24. However, the Toners quickly regrouped in the next two sets, cruising to 25-13 and sealing the win with a hard-fought 16-14 in the final set.

Deacons Score Key Win Over Foundation

Saturday, May 24, 2025 – KFC Deacons won a crucial match against leaders WOW Foundation on Saturday night to keep their hopes alive of repeating as the Barbados Volleyball Association’s men’s division two champions.

Playing in front of a massive and supportive crowd for both teams, Deacons led by the wiry Corey Webster inflicted the first defeat on Foundation 25-16, 25-27, 25-27, 25-22, 15-7. Nicholas Russell-Griffith also played a key role in Deacons staying alive after being down 1-2 in sets.

With key player Jabarry Goodridge sitting out the game nursing an injury, Foundation’s Rashawn Alleyne carried the attack for FU. Still, too many simple errors by Alleyne and his teammates also hurt Foundation.

Earlier in the night Blazers division three men’s team edged Ifill School Police 25-16, 19-25, 15-10. Club United’s division two women also scored a close win over Burger King Clapham Toners 28-26, 20-25, 15-13.

Combermere and Foundation Triumph in Clash

Friday, May 23, 2025 – Combermere had an impressive win over their arch rivals, the Christ Church Foundation School, when the National Sports Council’s under-16 volleyball league continued on Friday at Church Hill.

Combermere dismissed the Beacons 25-22, 25-23, with Joshua Ashby leading the Waterford lads to the win in front of Foundation’s home supporters. Many times, it seemed that the battle was personal between Ashby and CCFS’ lone hope, Mikhail Gooding.

The game was also bathed in irony as Combermere’s long-serving coach, Corene Brathwaite, was back at her alma mater, coaching against Foundation, while Fernando Skeete was running Foundation’s squad against his alma mater, Combermere.

Earlier, Foundation’s girls handed Combermere their second successive defeat 25-23, 25-13.
