Kolij and Foundation Share Honours

Wednesday, May 28, 2025 – Christ Church Foundation School and Harrison College shared the honours when the National Sports Council’s under-16 schools’ volleyball league was continued at Church Hill.

The Foundation boys defeated Harrison College 25-16, 25-18, led by the attack of Mikhail Gooding, who normally plays the role of libero in Division One volleyball. Earlier, the defending girls’ champion Harrison College surprisingly dropped the first set before winning 22-25, 25-14, 15-8 against Foundation.

The Lodge School claimed all honours in the home game up Massiah Street, St. John. The Lodge girls easily turned away the visiting Alleyne School 25-22, 25-11. The Lodge boys also won in straight sets, but it was a competitive win, 26-24, 27-25.

The Lester Vaughan School journeyed to Government Hill and defeated the Springer Memorial School 25-21, 25-19.

Combermere and Foundation Triumph in Clash

Friday, May 23, 2025 – Combermere had an impressive win over their arch rivals, the Christ Church Foundation School, when the National Sports Council’s under-16 volleyball league continued on Friday at Church Hill.

Combermere dismissed the Beacons 25-22, 25-23, with Joshua Ashby leading the Waterford lads to the win in front of Foundation’s home supporters. Many times, it seemed that the battle was personal between Ashby and CCFS’ lone hope, Mikhail Gooding.

The game was also bathed in irony as Combermere’s long-serving coach, Corene Brathwaite, was back at her alma mater, coaching against Foundation, while Fernando Skeete was running Foundation’s squad against his alma mater, Combermere.

Earlier, Foundation’s girls handed Combermere their second successive defeat 25-23, 25-13.
